IdeaFest – Final
IdeaFEST 2020 was an online conference born from the wreckage of the in-person conference landscape of the first half of 2020. Jeff Dalton and Michael West were happy with the results and are considering how this new event transitions into the future. Upfront I was concerned about sitting in front of a computer screen listening to people for two days, although on reflection I seem to be in that position a lot these days. The quality of the content and the hourly breaks made that a non-issue. What I did miss was the hallway conversations that in-person conferences provide. More ways to see and connect with other attendees would be useful as this venue matures. I hope to participate in this event in the future.
My presentation was titled Seven Macro Trends Driving Software Development Behavior. The material for the talk was drawn from the past 13 ish years of podcasting on software development. While at a high level all of us would recognize all of these trends, I think my interviewees’ views and the topics that presented themselves year over year synthesized together provide interesting nuances. During my talk, I left the attendees with two questions to consider.
Is there a glass ceiling for agile leaders? Can trust survive outsourcing & lawyers?
I would like to ask that you download the slides, take a look, and then let me know your thoughts on the questions I posed.
Attached is a PDF of the slides (if you really want the PowerPoint version please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org). I will transcribe the recording of the talk and publish both the transcript and the audio file (on the Software Process and Measurement Cast) within the next few weeks.
